Eagle Rare is produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, and has become one of the most recognisable names in premium bourbon. The core expression is Eagle Rare 10 Year Old, a Kentucky straight bourbon aged for at least a decade and known for a style that balances ripeness and structure, with notes of toffee, orange peel, oak, leather and gentle spice.
Although often spoken of in the same breath as single-barrel bourbons, Eagle Rare 10 Year Old is currently presented by Buffalo Trace simply as a 10-year-old bourbon rather than as a standard single-barrel release. It sits in a range that extends into rarer and far more limited bottlings, including Eagle Rare 17 Year Old, which appears as part of the annual Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, alongside ultra-premium expressions such as Double Eagle Very Rare and older age-stated releases.
For many drinkers, though, the appeal of Eagle Rare lies in the 10 Year Old’s combination of maturity, polish and relative accessibility. It offers a more composed, oak-shaped profile than Buffalo Trace’s flagship bourbon, while remaining approachable and firmly rooted in classic Kentucky bourbon character.
