Chichibu is one of the most important names in modern Japanese whisky. Founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, whose family history is closely tied to the now-closed Hanyu distillery, it quickly became a symbol of the new wave of Japanese distilling. The distillery’s first official release, Chichibu The First, made an immediate impression when it appeared in 2011. It was widely praised and helped establish Chichibu as a distillery worthy of serious attention from the outset.
