Distilled at Knockdhu in the Highlands, anCnoc is the modern name given to the distillery’s single malt in order to avoid confusion with Knockando . The distillery itself dates from the 1890s and today sits within the Inver House portfolio, but anCnoc has been positioned as a distinctly contemporary expression of traditional Highland malt, pairing long-established production methods with a cleaner, more modern presentation.
The brand’s rise has been helped by a thoughtful relaunch and by a style of presentation that appeals strongly to enthusiasts. Many expressions are bottled at 46% ABV and, across much of the range, anCnoc emphasises natural presentation, avoiding chill filtration and added colour. That approach, together with careful cask selection, has helped the whisky build a loyal following among drinkers who value both clarity of flavour and good value.
The house style is generally light, fragrant and finely balanced, often showing notes of honey, vanilla, citrus and soft orchard fruit, sometimes with a faint thread of smoke beneath the surface. Alongside these delicate, fruit-led bottlings, anCnoc has also shown a more overtly peated side in releases such as Peatheart, demonstrating that the distillery is capable of more than one register while still retaining its underlying elegance.
