Aberfeldy is the single malt at the heart of Dewar’s blended Scotch, and remains one of the key distilleries within the John Dewar & Sons portfolio, now owned by Bacardi. Built by the sons of John Dewar, the distillery was planned in 1896 and established to provide a dependable Highland malt for the expanding Dewar’s blend.
Although much of its production still contributes to Dewar’s, Aberfeldy has earned a loyal following as a single malt in its own right. Its whisky is typically associated with a honeyed, rounded Highland style, balancing soft fruit, gentle spice and a rich malty sweetness. That approachable character has helped make expressions such as the 12 Year Old and 21 Year Old particularly popular with drinkers seeking a classic, easy-going Highland malt.
Alongside its core range, Aberfeldy has also attracted interest from independent bottlers and limited-edition releases, which can show a richer or more idiosyncratic side of the spirit. Whether encountered as a central component of Dewar’s or as a single malt on its own terms, Aberfeldy remains a distillery admired for its balance, accessibility and enduring place in the modern Scotch whisky landscape.
