Calvet Cognac
Available for £850
Better known today as a wine house, Calvet also had a long history in Cognac. Founded in 1818, the company later expanded beyond wine, and by the nineteenth century Calvet was active in the Cognac trade as well, with old bottlings and vintage releases still turning up at auction and specialist retailers.
Today, Calvet Cognac is best understood as part of the category’s past rather than as a prominent contemporary producer. The youngest surviving bottles commonly seen on the market date from the 1960s, with older vintage examples also surfacing from time to time for collectors and enthusiasts.
