Adnams is a long-established brewing company based in Southwold, Suffolk, whose roots in East Anglia remain central to its identity. In 2010 the company expanded into spirits with the opening of the Copper House Distillery, bringing distillation onto the same site as its brewery and creating what Adnams describes as a grain-to-glass operation in Southwold.
Since then, the Copper House Distillery has become an important part of the modern English spirits scene, producing a range of gins, vodkas and whiskies alongside limited releases and experimental bottlings. Adnams Single Malt Whisky is made from East Anglian malted barley, distilled in copper pot stills and matured in new French oak barrels for at least five years, giving it a style that combines honeyed sweetness, vanilla and orchard-fruit richness with a rounded, gently spicy finish.
What distinguishes Adnams most clearly is the way its distilling sits within the wider culture of the brewery and the company’s long-standing emphasis on local sourcing and sustainability. The Copper House has been presented by Adnams as one of the UK’s more energy-efficient distilleries, designed to work in tandem with the brewery by recovering heat and integrating production in a way that reflects the company’s broader environmental ambitions.
